Sabre <\/span>Airline <\/span>Solutions <\/span>offers <\/span>data <\/span>solutions <\/span>and <\/span>software <\/span>to <\/span>aid <\/span>airlines <\/span>sell <\/span>products, <\/span>market <\/span>themselves, <\/span>and <\/span>operate <\/span>efficiently. The company would like to provide traveler <\/span>segmentation <\/span>services <\/span>for <\/span>their <\/span>customer <\/span>reservation <\/span>system <\/span>to <\/span>support <\/span>various <\/span>marketing <\/span>programs. <\/span>(Segmentation involves classifying <\/span>prospective buyers into groups, or segments, to create products specifically for each segment.) This project required <\/span>creating <\/span>segmentation <\/span>rules <\/span>that <\/span>classify <\/span>ticket purchase data in this manner. <\/span><\/p>\n

The senior design team<\/span> <\/span>replicated <\/span>the <\/span> <\/span>data <\/span>to <\/span>create <\/span>pre-booking <\/span>and <\/span>post-booking <\/span>results. <\/span>Pre-booking <\/span>segmentation <\/span>will <\/span>show <\/span>clusters <\/span>that <\/span>do <\/span>not <\/span>include <\/span>variables <\/span>such <\/span>as <\/span>fare <\/span>and <\/span>travel <\/span>time, <\/span>because <\/span>these <\/span>can\u2019t <\/span>be <\/span>known <\/span>until <\/span>after <\/span>booking. <\/span>On <\/span>the <\/span>other <\/span>hand, <\/span>post\u2010booking <\/span>data <\/span>will <\/span>provide <\/span>segments <\/span>that <\/span>include <\/span>purchases <\/span> <\/span>made. <\/span>Pre-booking <\/span>clusters <\/span>could <\/span>be <\/span>used <\/span>to <\/span>make <\/span>promotions <\/span>for <\/span>customers <\/span>while <\/span>booking, <\/span>and <\/span>post-booking <\/span>clusters <\/span>could <\/span>be <\/span>used <\/span>to <\/span>make <\/span>promotions <\/span>after <\/span>booking. <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span> <\/span>The <\/span>team <\/span>used <\/span>k<\/em>-means <\/span>clustering <\/span>method and the <\/span>R software <\/span>to <\/span>find <\/span>the <\/span>optimal <\/span>number <\/span>of <\/span>clusters <\/span>in <\/span>the <\/span>data and assist Sabre with the <\/span>design <\/span>of <\/span>good <\/span>fare <\/span>products. <\/span>For <\/span>example, <\/span>if <\/span>an <\/span>airline <\/span>has <\/span>created <\/span>a <\/span>ticket <\/span>fare <\/span>product <\/span>for <\/span>a <\/span>specific <\/span>market <\/span>like <\/span>business\u2010travelers, <\/span>the team\u2019s <\/span>segmentation rules <\/span>can <\/span>confirm <\/span> <\/span>whether <\/span> <\/span>the <\/span>product <\/span>is <\/span>well\u2010defined <\/span>and <\/span>well-targeted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
