{"id":2082,"date":"2009-05-12T22:45:52","date_gmt":"2009-05-13T03:45:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lyle.smu.edu\/emis\/design\/?p=7"},"modified":"2009-05-12T22:45:52","modified_gmt":"2009-05-13T03:45:52","slug":"post-game-campus-evacuation-simulation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/s2.smu.edu\/emis\/design2017\/index.php\/2009\/05\/12\/post-game-campus-evacuation-simulation\/","title":{"rendered":"Post-Game Campus Evacuation Simulation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-38\" title=\"smuparking08\" src=\"http:\/\/lyle.smu.edu\/emis\/design\/wp-content\/uploads\/smuparking08-150x150.png\" alt=\"smuparking08\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>Client: SMU Parking Department<\/strong><br \/>\nTeam: Conner Huckaby, Katelyn Pratt, Sarah Rives<br \/>\nFaculty: Prof. Richard Barr\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Year: 2007<br \/>\nDocuments: <a href=\"http:\/\/lyle.smu.edu\/~barr\/4395\/history\/reports\/2008\/RaytheonProcurementInventory.docx\">final report<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/lyle.smu.edu\/~barr\/4395\/history\/Presentations\/2008\/SMU%20Evacuation%20Simulation.ppt.pdf\">final presentation<\/a><\/p>\n<p>SMU will finish the construction of the Binkley parking garage in the summer of 2008.\u00a0 This new facility will open 850 new parking spaces on campus.\u00a0 However, the Binkley garage opening will cause new traffic troubles on campus because this parking structure is located kiddy-corner to Moody Garage, which has 830 parking spaces.<br \/>\nIn the 2008 fall football season, SMU could see full parking facilities due to the combination of student, faculty, and visitor parking.\u00a0 Currently, SMU expects a car at the top of Moody garage to take 45 minutes to exit campus.\u00a0 But this 45 minute benchmark was calculated without taking into consideration the new Binkley garage.\u00a0 If both garages are full, how will traffic exit campus? Furthermore, how fast can both garages empty out?
