Crystal structure of Complex I The E.coli enzyme has 63 transmembrane alpha-helice,of which 55 are shown here. Several are bent, and 6 are discontinuous or broken . It includes six subunits, NuoL, NuoM, NuoN, NuoA, NuoJ and NuoK. Subunits NuoA, J and K form an 11-helix bundle near the interface with the hydrophilic domain, and the antiporter-like subunits NuoN, M, and L follow, as proposed earlier. Sequence conservation is high for the membrane core of all subunits.
