Modern Social Sciences and Social Ethics:
Attention to Tribalism

by Theodore Walker, Jr.

.

description:

Like modern philosophies generally, modern social sciences and social ethics continue to give inadequate attention to tribalism; and
where modern social sciences and social ethics are attentive to tribalism, tribalism continues to be valued negatively, and hence wrongly.

prediction:

Continuing inattention to tribalism and wrongly valued attention to tribalism will contribute to continually inadequate social science and social ethics.

prescription:

According to Native American social wisdom, the social scientific and social ethical study of human existence needs to include more attention to tribalism, and a more positive regard for tribalism.
Moreover, Native American social wisdom teaches that social sciences and social ethics should recognize righteous tribal values, and evaluate social circumstances by reference to those righteous values.

vision / alternative prediction:

Vine Deloria and other Native Americans envision the possibility of an alternative and more favorable future where social sciences and social ethics are adequately attentive to tribalism, and where social sciences and social ethics recognize the positive values of tribal existence.
