Jeffery L. Kennington

Background

Jeff received his BSIE from the University of Arkansas in 1968, his MSIE from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1970, and his Ph.D. from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1973. He joined SMU in June 1973 and was promoted to Professor in 1984. He served as the chair of the Computer Science and Engineering department from September 1989 through August 1994.

Research Interests:

Jeff specializes in the design and analysis of algorithms for network optimization problems. He is a consultant for MCI Inc. where he has assisted in the development of mathematical models and algorithms for projects on real-time restoration and SONET network design.
He is the Area Editor for Computing for the journal, Operations Research, and serves on the Editorial Board of the Kluwer journal, Computational Optimization and Applications. He has well over forty refereed journal papers and is co-author of the 1980 John Wiley book, Algorithms for Network Programming.
During his 20 year career he has been the P.I. for research grants totaling well over 1 million dollars. Computer software developed by Jeff and his colleagues have been used for both research projects and commercial applications world-wide. Kennington and Helgason's NETFLO is part of the Dimacs Library maintained at Rutgers University.

Fishing

What......Fishing????

Well, Dr. Kennington just LOVES fishing, and you cannot mention him without mentioning fishing!!
The picture below shows Dr. Kennington with his son Chaz, 15, and Sparky the Dog, age 2. The HUGE fish (a Channel Catfish) in the picture was caught in 1995 at Lake Catherine in Arkansas. It was 29 inches long, and weighed 15 pounds!
