|Alireza Khotanzad received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, in 1978, 1980 and 1983, respectively. He joined the faculty of the Department of Electrical Engineering at Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas, in 1984, where he currently is a Professor. He is also the founder and president of Pattern Recognition Technologies, Inc. (PRT), a Dallas, Texas based firm that specializes in forecasting applications for the energy industry.
Dr. Khotanzad's research interests include artificial neural networks, pattern recognition, intelligent systems, load forecasting, electricity price forecasting and image analysis. He has supervised the completion of 23 PhDs.
He was an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence (TPAMI) from 2000 to 2004, the IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks from 1995 to 1997 and the Pattern Recognition journal from 1995 to 2006. He also served as the Chair of the IEEE Dallas Section in 1995-1996.
Dr. Khotanzad received the SMU Lyle School of Engineering Outstanding Graduate Professor Award in 1993 and 1996. He also was the recipient of the SMU Sigma Xi Outstanding Faculty Research Award in 1995. He was elected as the IEEE Dallas Section Engineer of the Year in 1998. He received the IEEE Third Millennium Medal in 2000. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Texas.
