You should first attempt the homework problems yourself, but are free to consult others and are encouraged to ask for help from the instructor. However, collusion or collaboration beyond this point will be considered cheating. Code and/or text for any assignment must be written independently. Simply copying other people's assignments is not permitted. It is acceptable for you to discuss the modeling and formulation aspects of the homework problems between yourselves, and to discuss points of AMPL/CPLEX syntax. However everybody must write their own code independently, and formulate their own written answers to modelling and explanatory questions. It's important that you get the benefits of thinking hard about the problems, their formulations, and the results of the models. It is unacceptable to copy part or all of someone else's code, even if you subsequently modify it in trivial ways (e.g. changing variable or equation names). It is not acceptable to copy any written portions of your assignment from anyone else. Any violation of these rules will be dealt with as provided for in university regulations.
You must show all of your work to receive full credit for any homework problem. Solutions must also be legible with answers clearly indicated.
Late homework will not be accepted, except in extraordinary situations such as medical emergencies. Start your assignments early!
Students are reminded that the SMU Honor Code applies to this course. Honor Code violations will be dealt with in a manner determined by the instructor.
Students needing academic accommodations for a disability must first be registered with Disability Accommodations & Success Strategies (DASS) to verify the disability and to establish eligibility for accommodations. Students may call 214-768-1470 or visit http://www.smu.edu/alec/dass.asp to begin the process. Once registered, students should then schedule an appointment with the professor to make appropriate arrangements. (See University Policy No. 2.4; an attachment describes the DASS procedures and relocated office.)
Religiously observant students wishing to be absent on holidays that require missing class should notify their professors in writing at the beginning of the semester, and should discuss with them, in advance, acceptable ways of making up any work missed because of the absence. (See University Policy No. 1.9.)
Students participating in an officially sanctioned, scheduled University extracurricular activity should be given the opportunity to make up class assignments or other graded assignments missed as a result of their participation. It is the responsibility of the student to make arrangements with the instructor prior to any missed scheduled examination or other missed assignment for making up the work.
