Prof. Jeff Tian (tian@smu.edu)

  1. Our textbook, DTUI, focuses on the spoken/verbal form of NLI. Compare it to other forms of NLI, such as written text, sign language, Braille (tactile writing system for the visually impaired), etc. Discuss the similarities and differences in UI design among these different forms of NLI and the necessary NLP/NLT (natural language processing/technology) support for them.

  2. How would you evaluate the usability/UX of the different forms of NLI in the above question? Describe your choice of evaluation techniques and usability metrics. Should the same techniques and metrics be used to evaluate CLI? Briefly justify yourself.

  3. We discussed content organization as part of menus. Can you apply the same design rules/guidelines/recommendations/considerations/etc. to the other 4 IS we also covered in class? If so, how (and give some concrete examples)? If not, why not?

  4. How do you evaluate the differetn content organization strategies? List the appropraite evaluate technique(s) and illustrate it/them with some concrete examples. What usability metrics would you use? What kind of data are needed and how would you collect them?
