Part 1

Review the material related to class 1 (Ch.1-5, and Ch.6,7,13-16 briefly) and write a short essay or a critical analysis (Option A) of software testing and quality assurance practice in your work or on a self-study topic (Option B). There are two options/variations to this homework assignment:

• Option A: Review the quality assurance/testing practice in your company (or your dept/division, or your former company), and write a short essay to summarize the current/past practice, categorize individual QA activities according to our classification in Chapter 3, analyze its strength and weakness areas, and discuss possible improvements. In particular, discuss the possibility if some of these suggested improvements can be implemented in your course project.
  (This is probably more appropriate for most of you. However, if you don't feel comfortable discussing the practices at your company, you may choose the second option below.)

• Option B: If you do not have too much to report in the "practice" part, or if you don't feel comfortable discussing the QA practice at your current/former company, you can select a chapter from Ch.13-16, or related papers or book chapters on similar topics as Ch.13-16, and write a summary of the chapter/paper. Again, you might want to consider and discuss the possibility of including the application of it in your course project.
