CSE 8316 (Spring, 2017): Homework #3

Prof. Jeff Tian (tian@engr.smu.edu)

Part 1: Problems from our textbook's companion website

Part 2: Usability Analysis and Evaluation

Command language interface (CLI) is one of the oldest UI. On the other hand, although people have aspired to have a natural language interface (NLI) almost as long as we had CLI, NLI has not been practical for general tasks for a long time. What is your assessment for the future of NLI and CLI, particularly their impact on usability? Will the advance of NLI eliminate the need for CLI? What about audio menus, will they be replaced by auditory NLI? You may want to research this topic a bit by reading a couple of recently published papers on this topic. If so, please cite the paper in your answer.

In addition, select some guidelines or rules as heuristics and perform an expert review (single inspector fine for this hw) of a CLI of your choice.

Due Date:

4/4/17 for on-campus students and 4/6/17 for distance students.
