This PIP box is shown in yellow, the hydrophobic pocket that binds the PIP boxes is shown in white. For reference on the back of the protein, the Lys-164 that can be ubiquitinated is shown in black. Notice the shape similarity between the PIP box and its binding pocket.

  Zoomed in view of the hydrophobic pocket and the Polymerase K interaction. Hydrogen bonds are shown. Notice that the Lys-862 is not interating with the hydrophobic pocket, a much different interaction than seen in canonical PIP box interactions. There is no residue before p4 on the fragment that forms a hydrogen bond with PCNA
