Material Systems Introduction

With the release of Modeig98 BETA 1.1, about 12 more material systems have been added to Modeig. Because of this, the format of the input files has had a few modifications. Specifically, the ALPERC input card is no longer supported. Instead, the user should use the MATSYS, XPERC and YPERC input cards.

For more information about this change and a list of supported materail systems, please see below - scroll down.

Material Systems Introduction
  In Modeig98 (beta 1.1 and up) multiple material systems have been added (in addition to AlGaAs). Therefore, the ALPERC cards have become outdated and are no longer supported. (See below for an example of how to modify existing files to work with Modeig98). Instead, use the following cards;
  MATSYS - Material System Code
  XPERC - X Percentage
  YPERC - Y Percentage
  PL - PL wavelength for InGaAsP

The Table below lists all Material systems that are currently available in Modeig98, the reference (listed at the bottom of the page), their material systems code (MATSYS Card) and if XPERC and/or YPERC are required.

Material System Reference MATSYS Code XPERC Required? YPERC Required?

Ga(x)In(1-x)P [matched to GaAs] ??? 10.0 YES Not Used
InGaAsP [matched to InP] ??? 11.0 NO - USE PL!!! Not Used

To use a material system in a modeig98 input file, do the following: (example of using AlGaAs by Adachi)

  LAYER MATSYS=0.0 XPERC=0.2 TL=1.0

previously this would have been implemented as:

  LAYER ALPERC=0.2 TL=1.0

Another Example: Al(x)Ga(1-x)P(y)Sb(1-y)

  LAYER MATSYS=3.0 XPERC=0.2 YPERC=0.4 TL=1.0
