If you wish to create a web site for class instead of using course management software, such as Blackboard or WebCT, here is how you can do-it-yourself.
Creating a web site on faculty.smu.edu (via ITS, central computing group)
- With your ITS email account (myname@smu.edu), you can request space on the Microsoft-hosted web site faculty.smu.edu. See Requesting Web Space.
- The URL for this web site will be: faculty.smu.edu/myname
- To build and upload your site onto the ITS Microsoft web server, see ITS Web FAQ page
Creating a web site on engr.smu.edu (School of Engineering web server)
- With your School of Engineering email account (me@engr.smu.edu), web service is automatically available.
- The URL for this web site will be: engr.smu.edu/~me
- The file space for your web site is located in the public_html directory of your Unix account. To create your site, use ftp or web-publishing software to log into your Engineering account (e.g., myname) on any general-use Unix machine (e.g., dop.engr.smu.edu or homer.engr.smu.edu), and upload files to your public_html subdirectory.
- Alternatively, you may wish to set up a web directory specifically for your class. See Tutorials for uploading/downloading
