The
ErbB
family of receptor tyrosine kinases consists of four structurally
related
members; Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR, ErbB1), HER2 (ErbB2),
HER3
(ErbB3), and HER4 (ErbB4) that control numerous aspects of normal cell
growth and proliferation. Overexpression and loss of regulation of
ErbB receptors, especially of EGFR and HER2, are found in multiple types
of cancer and correlate with worse prognosis and drug response.
