ITS Account Passwords

From SMU’s Information Technology Services (ITS) group, which manages the access.smu.edu, faculty.smu.edu, and @smu.edu email accounts on 12/13/04. Note: ITS requires users to change passwords annually, so please sign up, particularly if you do not use the system often.

ITS implemented an online password reset tool in August 2004. Since then, 1,571 users have enrolled in the application allowing these users to reset their account password any time of the day or night without contacting the Help Desk.  Although the application is in place and working as designed, the number of calls requesting password resets continue to be high.

Beginning February 1, the ITS Help Desk will NO LONGER reset account passwords over the phone or via email.  Password reset requests will have to be made in person with a valid SMU ID card.  This will ensure tighter security for your computer accounts.  In addition, this will lessen the burden on the Help Desk of password reset requests and allow them to focus on expediting other support requests.

Please enroll in the application as soon as possible to avoid any inconvenience.  Enrollment takes about 2 minutes of your time.  Go to http://www.smu.edu/password and click Enroll.  You must know your current account password in order to complete the enrollment process.  Once you have enrolled, you will be eligible to use the online reset application to reset, unlock or change your account password from anywhere at anytime.

If you have not enrolled by February 1 and request a new password after that date, you will be required to visit the ITS Help Desk in Blanton with your SMU ID card.  Only then will the Help Desk issue a new password for your account.  Please don't delay--- enroll in the Password Reset Tool today!
