Course Objectives
Production is the process of converting resources into manufactured goods. Similarly, operations is concerned with organizing people and technology to deliver
services to customers. The purpose of this course is to familiarize the student with a variety of methods for forecasting, planning, scheduling and controlling quality for production and operations
systems.
This course applies the principles of engineering, or “design under constraint,”
to modern production systems. Topics include: production systems analysis and design considerations, systems design and optimization models and methods, pull- and push-based production systems,
quality engineering, process improvement, plus techniques for engineering and managing systems with specific architectures: batch-oriented, continuous-flow, projects, and just-in-time.
Students
learn to manage processes within an organization. Specific techniques are studied for forecasting, planning and operating production and operations systems in today's competitive environment.
