ECE 5/7383 Introduction to Quantum Informatics
Grading Policy Exam 1 20%
  Exam 2 20%
  Class Project (video presentation) 20%
  (Final) Exam 20%
  Homework (in total) 20%

NOTE: Grades on assignments and exams will range from 0-100. However, the final class grade will be scaled to fit the above grading policy (1 homework point IS NOT EQUAL TO 1 test point)

Late Assignments:

Unless a documented and legitimate reason is provided, all assignments turned in late will automatically have 20% of the total possible points deducted for EACH class period that has elapsed since the due date.  As an example, a 100-point assignment that was due on Wednesday but turned in on Thursday will be graded as normal and then 20 additional points (out of a possible total of 100) will be deducted for being late.  All assignments are due at the BEGINNING of the class period, assignments turned in after the beginning of the class period will be considered late.

Students who do not turn in project materials WILL NOT pass this class. All technical details of your projects must be presented and described in your reports. Plagiarism will not be tolerated in any way and proper citations must be used where appropriate. If you have questions about plagiarism, please ask BEFORE you turn in your assignment. Assignments will be scanned for instances of plagiarism and not fully understanding the meaning of plagiarism will not be an excuse to avoid a penalty.

Examinations:

There will be no makeup examinations, a missed examination will result in 0% unless a valid and documented excuse is presented.  Students must provide such documentation before the examination date.  In emergencies where unforseen experiences prevent advance notification of missing an exam, notification must be provided within 1 class period following the missed examination along with an explanation of the reason advance notification was impossible to provide.  In these cases, the validity of the unforseen emergency will be decided upon by the class instructor. In the case of a legitimate excuse for missing an examination, an alternative for making up this portion of total grade will be provided to the student. Cheating in any way shape or form will be dealt with as per the conditions of the SMU honor code. Plagiarism is cheating and copying examinations is cheating on behalf of the person copying and the person who is being copied from, so be aware of your surroundings when taking exams.
