Breast cancer resistance protein is also known as BCRP or ABCG2 (ATP binding cassette protein, subfamily G, member 2). It is a transmembrane efflux protein that pumps xenobiotics and drugs out the cell. Though it has many roles within the cell, it is of current interest because over-expression of BCRP is associated with multidrug resistance of some cancers. Therefore, it is the subject of current pharmacological research.
