Parkinson's disease is
well-known progressive neurodegenerative disease. Mutations in the PARK2
(parkin) gene are linked to the autosomal recessive form of the disease.
When the loss of mitochondrial membrane potential occurs PINK1 and
parkin coordinate ubiquitination, proteosomal activation, and an
autophagic response leading to possible cell death.
